Richard Cupp(right)
is the owner of Main Street Antiques and is married to
Debra with two sons, Justin and Joel. Joel works with
dad at Main Street Antiques and is learning the ropes
of the antique business.
Richard
began dabbling with antiques and collectibles in 1980
by going to yard sales on weekends to find "goodies" to
sell to "stupid" dealers. Flea marketing and
shows followed until 1988. In 1988, Richard opened his
first store front on Granby Street in Norfolk, VA. In
1994 Richard moved the store front to High Street in
Portsmouth, VA. Then in 1996, Richard closed the store
front to do the antiques show circuits which he continued
until 2003. At that time Yvonne Dodson hired Richard
as the manager of Main Street Antiques Mall. In June
2004, Richard became the owner. In the twenty five years
that Richard Cupp has been in the antique business, he
has acquired a vast knowledge of antiques in general
and has sold in excess of 3 million dollars worth of
antiques.
And
now the circle comes complete because now he is the "stupid" antiques
dealer buying "goodies" from the new kids on
the block!
